I was sitting in the MRI building waiting for Mr 5 to finish being MRI’d, getting a bit bored and restless, I was out of iphone Candy Crush lives and I’d read the Woman and Garden magazine on the table, it was load of waffle to be honest, probably only of interest to yummy Mummies, ladies that lunch and people that don’t put their feet on tables.

When I spied a Sainsbury’s supplement under a photography magazine, sadly the only interesting thing in there was a recipe for a Moroccan Harissa soup, but that that was the inspiration for

Harissa chicken broth with crunchy chick peas.

chix harissa prep

First of all I seasoned the chicken breast with some spices.

season chicken

and then I seasoned the chick peas with the same spices and put them both into a hot oven.

I sweated the onions off, then added the garlic and peppers and cooked them for a bit, added a dollop of harissa paste and as an after thought a couple of tablespoons of chopped tomatoes..

toms and harissa

topped it up with a cup of water and left it too simmer for a while, then I thickened it up with a little corn flour fecule..

rich sauce

I checked the seasoning and decided that the tomatoes had made it a little bitter so I needed something to round the flavour off with..

I had a look in the fridge and came up with..

secret ingredient

It worked perfectly, just took the edge off, I chucked in a few bits of chopped dates too.

When the chicken was cooked I took it out and left it to rest, while the chick peas finished off..

Then I sliced the meat up, put it into a bowl.

slice chix

and poured the broth over the top.

I served it with one of the baguettes I’d made the day before and the crunchy, roasted chick peas

and bread

It was absolutely gorgeous, all warm, spicy and smokey flavoured..
CHIX BROTH

and the crunchy chick peas on top just finished it off nicely..
